Companion

Overview

Same element, same polarity as the Day Master. Represents self-reliance, equal competition, and parallel relationships.

Keywords: Independence, competition, siblings, peers

Personality

The Companion (比肩) represents the Day Master itself — same element, same polarity. In classical texts like 《子平真诠》, it symbolizes self-reliance, parallel peers, and the spirit of standing equal to others. Those with strong Companion energy tend to be independent, principled, and unwilling to depend on others easily.

Companion also governs siblings, colleagues, and friends of equal standing. When balanced, it brings solidarity, mutual support among peers, and the courage to walk one's own path. When excessive, it can manifest as stubborn self-reliance, difficulty accepting help, or intense rivalry with equals.

Career

Companion favors careers requiring self-direction and equal partnership — entrepreneurship, freelance work, cooperative ventures, or roles among peers rather than under strict hierarchy. Classical texts note that when the Day Master is weak, Companion energy strengthens it; when the Day Master is already strong, this energy should be channeled outward through expression or activity. In business, Companion types excel when they can act as equals in a team or lead their own initiative without excessive oversight.

Relationships

In relationships, Companion energy seeks equality and mutual respect. There is little tolerance for being controlled or patronized. Friendships tend to be loyal but competitive; romantic partnerships work best when both partners maintain independence. Excessive Companion can create power struggles between equals or distance from those who offer support.
